The Role
The Supercharger Design Manager role at Tesla involves active coordination of all deployment phases of Tesla’s Supercharger projects. This includes project feasibility, due diligence, layout and design, utility coordination and easements, permitting, and construction support. The ideal candidate has relevant hands-on experience managing infrastructure projects (acting as the primary manager on up to forty projects simultaneously across multiple states and jurisdictions) and demonstrates a bias towards action, creative problem-solving, and mastery of project management tools. High energy and an optimistic approach to fully completing projects swiftly and with quality are essential.
Responsibilities
- Project Management:
- Manage all phases of due diligence, design, entitlement, and utility coordination of Supercharger sites within a given territory.
- Ensure sites are successfully brought to a construction-ready status, a key performance indicator.
- Site Assessment:
- Review existing and proposed site documents and field conditions for stakeholder, legal, and technical constraints.
- Assess construction and cost viability.
- Stakeholder Representation:
- Represent Tesla, the Supercharger program, and the needs of charging customers to external stakeholders including utilities, jurisdictions, vendors, and property hosts.
- Engage in written and verbal communication, potentially in public settings.
- Approval Tracking:
- Track and manage the status of all needed internal and external approvals.
- Process Improvement:
- Track and analyze past project results to identify process improvements and cost/timeline reductions for existing and future projects.
- Material Coordination:
- Track the manufacturing of long lead-time materials and partner with the construction manager to ensure timely delivery to job sites.
Requirements
- Travel:
- Ability to travel 50-60% of the time.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and must be insured.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years in project management, construction management, and/or site development experience.
- Prior work in EV installation, telecom, solar, or retail development as a project manager, project engineer, or installer strongly preferred.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical), or equivalent.
- Technical Skills:
- Working knowledge of power integration and utility design processes.
- Strong understanding of AC and DC power, transformers, circuit protection, single-line electrical and mechanical diagrams, and construction drawings.
- Project Management Skills:
- Proven record of managing and delivering multiple simultaneous projects ahead of schedule.
- Adherence to the highest quality standards and cost efficiency.
- Communication Skills:
- Aptitude in communicating and building relationships with property owners, local jurisdictions, utility companies, and other stakeholders.
- Autonomy:
- Ability to function autonomously with a self-starter approach.
- Eagerness to present innovative ideas that improve designs, processes, assemblies, costs, or the company as a whole.

Expected Compensation
- Associate Technical Construction Project Manager: $88,000 – $132,000 annual salary
- Technical Construction Project Manager: $100,000 – $150,000 annual salary
- Sr Technical Construction Project Manager: $124,000 – $186,000 annual salary
- Staff Technical Construction Project Manager: $144,000 – $216,000 annual salary
- Sr Staff Technical Construction Project Manager: $172,000 – $258,000 annual salary
- Principal Technical Construction Project Manager: $200,000 – $300,000 annual salary

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
