About Us
Cannify is a science-based cannabis education company. We are expanding our learning platform with new interactive course and exam features to train professionals in the cannabis industry. We are seeking a contractor with Node.js/Express/MySQL experience in LMS systems to help refine and extend our platform.

Role Overview
You will collaborate with our in-house developer to enhance our LMS and assessment system. The role combines backend logic with front-end interaction design, focusing on data integrity, security, and a smooth user experience. You will help design and build the LMS structure that will support features like learning modules, custom quizzes, timed exams, and progress tracking, building on our existing platform foundation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize Node.js API endpoints powering our WordPress LMS custom courses.
  • Build scalable LMS architecture supporting growing course catalogs and user bases.
  • Handle LMS business logic and access restrictions as needed.
  • Maintain concise documentation and clear communication with the internal development team.
  • Enhance other platform features such as secure password reset and account recovery functionalities.
  • Refactor Node.js code from callbacks to modern async/await patterns.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience with Node.js, Express, MySQL, WordPress, HTML, Sass/CSS, Vue.js.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and PHP.
  • Proficiency with AJAX, and jQuery.
  • Strong debugging and optimization skills in logic-heavy environments.
  • Experience managing secure user session data and persistent state.
  • Familiarity with backend-side validation and anti-tampering methods (e.g., token signing, HMAC, encryption).
  • Experience designing or maintaining database schemas for enrollments and tracking.
  • Understanding of data security principles (e.g., nonce use, token expiration, brute-force protection).
  • Experience with secure authentication workflows (e.g., password hashing, reset tokens, email-based recovery).

Nice-to-Have

  • Familiarity with HIPAA compliance standards.
  • Experience developing edtech or LMS platforms that manage health-related or sensitive student information.
  • Hands-on experience with Git version control and CI/CD pipelines.

As part of the selection process, shortlisted applicants will complete a brief customized coding exercise tailored to both the project’s priorities and the candidate’s technical capabilities.

Engagement Terms

  • Flexible remote schedule.
  • Collaborative work with a small, experienced development team.
  • Hourly rate $50 – $110 (USD) based on experience and scope of work.
